We spent 2 days in Valdivia - a very nice college town on the Pacific Ocean. We went for a few walks along the coast and saw an old fort. We visited the Kunstmann brewery - there were many German immigrants to this area pre-WWI and there is evidence for this in a local brew of beer as well as other names around the neighborhood. In addition, we spent a few hours at the morning fish and vegetable market watching the fisherman filet fish (FFF) and feed overweight sea lions, cormorants, seagulls, hawks, and a turkey vulture.
After taking an 11-hour overnight bus to Santiago, we have arrived in the city - which at first glance appears to be similar to Buenos Aires, but with more hills and mountains?
Kay joined us a few hours after our arrival and we checked out the local fish market... We plan to explore Santiago for 2 days, then head out West to check out the coastal towns of Isla del Negra, Valparaiso, and ViƱa del Mar . . .
We´ll post more when we get the chance!
