17-20 Jan 2007
We traveled through several more coastal Chilean towns - Papudo, Zapallar, La Ligua, and Las Termas de Socos. In La Ligua we stopped at a fair where the locals were selling their knit goods. In Las Termas de Socos we visited the Termas and had a relaxing bath in the hot hot water. Finally, we made it to La Serena. Since Kay is a Rotarian, we called ahead and made plans to join them for their weekly club meeting. The president, Ivan, picked us up from our cabaƱa and brought us to the club´s house where we met about 20 members of this all-male club (Kay´s is coed). They gave us a great welcoming and we met many professionals of the community - several professors and businessmen. The head of AURA (see blog entry on observatories) is a Rotarian, but unfortunately he was away on vacation. We met several nice people and it was great way to learn about the area. We also spent several hours walking the miles of beach in La Serena - gorgeous waves and water.
