flora of patagonia

...as per Daniela´s request ... a selection of Patagonian flora

Disclaimer and apology: the point-and-shoot sometimes has trouble focusing in macro, so we humbly apologize if a few are a wee bit out of focus...

Finally, if anyone can label any of these plants, we would love to know some of their names... we know the arrayanes trees and fuzzy mulline...

Cool!!!!! thanks for taking all these gorgeous photos.

You know I am a crap botanist in terms of identifying plants. But that first photo is a Fuchsia of some kind, likely Fuchsia megellanic which is native to Argentina and Chile. The fourth photo- purple petals with yellow anthers clustered in the middle- is in the Solanaceae family (tomatoes, nightshades) - may be silver-leaf nightshade or similar. Of course, lupines (gorgeous photo with the waterfall!!!) Third photo- maybe some member of the pea family, Fabaceae or Leguminosae? It has nifty leaves! Looks like maybe an orchid or two...
I really need a field guide to the flora of Patagonia/Argentina or the like...

daniela - i plan on posting more and more photos of the plants - mostly flowers to this blog entry. . . i took about 15 more yesterday alone! there are incredible numbers of plants. it´s just phenomenal. I think that we are seeing so many flowering plants because it is late Spring here - think: early June in the USA. Well, stay tuned for more! And, thanks for your speculations, keep telling me more if you know any more... it´s better than I can do!
