After we returned from the islands, we stopped briefly at a restaurant to grab a few Fantas and a lemonade in what would turn out to be an unsuccessful attempt at rehydration. . . then jumped in a cab for the 25 minute drive out to Sillustani, which was an important funeral and cemetery site for the Incas. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sillustani
The light was incredible and it was difficult to take a bad picture. The site sits perched up above a lake and there were thunderstorms rolling in all around us. Somewhat foreboding was our guide´s repeated explanations about how all of these huge (30-50 ft tall) monuments used to be so much more impressive before they were partially destroyed by lightning. Hence the tallest structure on the top of the hill was the large lightning rod which had recently been placed there. . .
We travelled out there with a great Brazilian guy named Alvaro whom we had met on the boat trip out to the islands. However, he was headed north to Cusco while we headed south to Copacabana the next morning. . . a rather bumpy 3 hours along the edge of Lago Titicaca.
